Learn to Swim in 30 Days

A thirty-day program for adults learning to swim — calm first, technique second, one pool task at a time.

First, the definition — because most people carry the wrong one. Swimming means using your arms and legs to move through the water: getting in, moving through, and getting back to safety. It does not mean perfect competitive freestyle. Over thirty days you build exactly that — water calm, floating, gliding and your first continuous metres — one short session and one pool task at a time, with your comfort measured from day one so you can see it change. Built by Jason Cram, Commonwealth Games gold medallist and 2003 World Champion.

The weeks

  1. Week 0Starting Point

Where you are with the water, and how this program works.

  2. Week 1Water Calm

Breath control and calm — the real foundation of swimming.

  3. Week 2Float and Glide

Let the water hold you — it wants to.

  4. Week 3Move Through Water

Add quiet legs and easy arms to the glide.

  5. Week 4Swim and Continue

Link it together — breath, strokes, metres — and plan what comes next.

How it works

Swimming means using your arms and legs to move through the water — getting in, moving through, getting back to safety. Not perfect competitive freestyle. That's the standard this program works to: short video sessions you watch anywhere, one pool task per session, and your comfort in the water measured from day one so you can see it change. Practise at a lifeguarded pool, in water you can stand in, never alone.
